Dive into the captivating world of the Middle Ages this January with a series of online courses designed for curious minds. From Vikings to Magic and Relics to Crusades, these classes offer a unique opportunity to explore the era’s rich legacy from the comfort of your home.
Each course runs for six weeks, and includes a weekly live session on Zoom plus readings (if you cannot make a live session, you can still watch the session afterwards). Each course is priced at $149 US. Here are the details for each course:
An introduction to Viking History. Each week historian Terri Barnes takes you through a different aspect of the lives of Nordic peoples who lived during the Viking Age from roughly AD 750 to 1100.

Explore the fascinating world of magic in the early and high Middle Ages, examining its practices, practitioners, and cultural impact. From court astrologers to village healers, we will investigate the complex interplay between magic, religion, and science in shaping medieval European society and thought.

This course examines sacred objects in the premodern Mediterranean world, with a focus on the Christian veneration of relics. Through primary sources and modern scholarship, learn the various ways people understood these objects’ power and histories.

This course offers an overview covering the Crusades to the Middle East during the period 1095-1187 – from the First Crusade to the Fall of Jerusalem.
