Institut Teknologi Bandung tops higher education ministry’s list of the best universities in Indonesia – Coconuts

A new semester beckons for university students across Indonesia, many of whom are starting/returning to college throughout this month and September.
Of course, prestige plays a huge part in many students’ university choices. As such, students at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) will be very happy to know that their university is still the best in Indonesia, at least according to a ranking compiled by the Research, Technology, and Higher Education Ministry.
ITB retains its top spot in the ministry’s ranking of the best universities in Indonesia this year, while managing to up their overall score of 3.74 last year to 3.78 this year.
Yogyakarta’s Universitas Gajah Mada took second place with 3.72, while Universitas Indonesia (UI) climbed one spot to third with 3.69, displacing Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) at fourth.
The 12 top Indonesian universities generally increased their scores from last year.
“Some increased significantly and some increased an ordinary amount,” said Minister Mohamad Nasir, as quoted by Republika during the ranking announcement yesterday.
The ministry’s scores are based on the number and quality of lecturers, accredited study programs and the performance of lecturers and students. The ministry assessed 3,244 universities in total.
Below is the Research, Technology, and Higher Education Ministry’s list of top 12 Indonesian universities and their corresponding scores this year:

Universitas Gajah Mada – 3.72
Universitas Indonesia – 3.69
Institut Pertanian Bogor – 3.54
Universitas Brawijaya – 3.24
Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember – 3.17
Universitas Airlangga – 3.15
Universitas Hasanuddin – 3.06
Universitas Diponegoro – 3.04
Universitas Padjadjaran – 2.97
Universitas Andalas – 2.88
Universitas Sebelas Maret – 2.87
