Being brave, ‘can actually be in the small moments,’ says Maya Woronicz
A Timmins woman will be competing in a North America-wide public speaking competition on Nov. 9 at the Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto.
Maya Woronicz (pronounced “Veronitch”), will be competing against 14 other speakers who qualified at five competitions that took place over the course of the year.
The 2024 Grand Slam Inspirational Speaking Finals is hosted by Speaker Slam, a speaker development agency.
Speakers turn their life stories into inspirational speeches for personal and professional growth, with some launching careers as keynote speakers and authors.
The CEO of the Speakers Bureau of Canada is one of eight judges who will determine the outcome, with the winner walking away with cash prizes and a host of free speaker development and marketing services from the judges.
Woronicz was chosen after winning third place at a July competition in Toronto where she spoke about living with psoriatic arthritis.
“This speech will be very different from my first one and I will be speaking more on motherhood and parenthood,” Woronicz said.
The theme of the night will be bravery.
“Being brave comes in so many forms and often times we look at it as a huge hurdle we have to overcome, but in reality, in can actually be in the small moments, the moments where we might feel uncomfortable,” said the life coach and former competitive gymnast .
Her experience in July inspired her to grow as a public speaker.
Since first speaking to the Daily Press in about her public speaking competitions, she has taken down the website for her coaching business, and has rebranded herself around her adventures in public speaking.
She still takes on coaching clients, taking bookings on Instagram, and her upcoming speech on bravery ties in to helping mothers with their self-identity, she said.
The 2024 Grand Slam: The Inspirational Speaking Finals by Speaker Slam, takes place Saturday, Nov. 9 at CBC’s Glenn Gould Studio, 250 Front St. W., Toronto, from 6 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Livestream and live tickets are available on Eventbrite.
