Seven Crisp County detention center inmates complete GED Courses online – WALB

CORDELE, Ga. (WALB) – The Crisp County detention center had seven inmates complete 167 GED courses online.
According to the Crisp County Sheriff’s office, in November, Pay Tel Communications, Inc. provided multi-functioning tablets to those incarcerated at the detention center. The tablets are to ensure that all incarcerated individuals have equal opportunities, bridging socio-economic gaps and creating a more safe and calm jail environment.
Detainees have the chance to complete educational courses, and in return, they earn free entertainment time that allows them to watch movies, listen to music, and play games.
Crisp County Sheriff, Billy Hancock says he is excited to announce that within the first month, seven inmates have completed at 167 GED courses, totaling 748 hours of learning time, with two individuals being interested in taking the GED test.
“We will work hard to help them better themselves. I will arrange for them to take the test.”
The tablets also offer educational courses and personal development programs, with the most popular course being “12 Steps to Recovery.”
Hancock says this is promising, as it reflects the inmates’ desire for assistance in rehabilitation and offers hope for their future.
